Alex's 13th birthday

Alex turned 13 on Nov. 27. We were at David's parents' house for Thanksgiving and we celebrated Alex's there. Two of David's siblings ( older brother's family and a younger sister's family) couldn't make it to the gathering. Being there for a family gathering reminds me of our family get-togethers in Taiwan. Missing you and wishing you all a very happy holiday.

Spelling Bee Contest

Ilya just won the school Spelling Bee Contest. She will represent her school to participate in the Rowan County Spelling Bee Contest in February. Her winning the contest was her birthday gift for me.

Just something simple ...

I bring nothing of significance, but I just wanted to share a few clips that my friend sent me and I thought were pretty funny. After going to watch Avenue Queue (which is great too, but definitely not PG and for the easily offended), I've been trying to find a show that would match up to it as far as humor goes. As a classical music lover, I'll definitely have to look into Igudesman & Joo if they ever decide to perform in the states.

Rachmaninov had big hands.
I will survive.

Handwriting analysis!

You can get yours here! While a bit of it was pretty generic, a lot of the comments were pretty much on the spot for me. All you need is 10-15 minutes and a sample of your handwriting (a full page would be best)!

My handwriting. My finger was for reference size.

Christina uses judgment to make decisions. She is ruled by her head, not her heart. She is a cool, collected person who is usually unexpressive emotionally. Some may see her as unemotional. She does have emotions but has no need to express them. She is withdrawn into herself and enjoys being alone.

The circumstances when Christina does express emotions include: extreme anger, extreme passion, and tremendous stress. If someone gets her mad enough to tell her off, she will not be sorry about it later. She puts a mark in her mind when someone angers her. She keeps track of these marks and when she hits that last mark she will let them know they have gone too far. She is ruled somewhat by self-interest. All her conclusions are made without outside emotional influence. She is very level-headed and will remain calm in an emergency situation. In a situation where other people might get hysterical, she has poise.

Christina will work more efficiently if given space and time to be alone. She would rather not be surrounded by people constantly. In a relationship, she will show her love by the things she does rather than by the things she says. Saying "I love you" is not a needed routine because she feels her mate should already know. The only exception to this is if she has logically concluded that it is best for her mate to hear her express her love verbally.

Christina is not subject to emotional appeals. If someone is selling a product to her, they will need to present only the facts. They should present them from a standpoint of her sound judgment. She will not be taken in by an emotional story about someone else. She will meet emergencies without getting hysterical and she will always ask "Is this best for me?"

Christina tends to write a bit smaller than the average person. When a person's letters are small and tiny, this indicates an ability to focus and concentrate. This character trait is a huge asset in careers like math, science, race car driving, and flying planes. However, if Christina writes tiny all of the time, she will also display characteristics of someone who is socially introverted. Christina will often sit on the sideline and watch others get the attention at parties. she might be willing to open up and be warm, but only in small groups or a select group of people. When she is busy working on a project, it is common for all other noises and distractions to just fade away and her ability to focus is incredible. When she says "she didn't hear you", she really means, she didn't hear you.
Christina will demand respect and will expect others to treat her with honor and dignity. Christina believes in her ideas and will expect other people to also respect them. She has a lot of pride.
Christina will be candid and direct when expressing her opinion. She will tell them what she thinks if they ask for it, whether they like it or not. So, if they don't really want her opinion, don't ask for it!
Because Christina has zigzagged shaped 'm' and 'n' hump, Christina is an analytical thinker. Her mind sifts and examines facts. She interprets all facts by separating them, breaking them down, and organizing them from a critical point of view. This pattern of clarifying facts contributes to her strong reasoning ability. Christina's mind is constantly analyzing all situations that she encounters.
Christina is a practical person whose goals are planned, practical, and down to earth. This is typical of people with normal healthy self-esteem. She needs to visualize the end of a project before she starts. she finds joy in anticipation and planning. Notice that I said she plans everything she is going to do, that doesn't necessarily mean things go as planned. Christina basically feels good about herself. She has a positive self-esteem which contributes to her success. She feels she has the ability to achieve anything she sets her mind to. However, she sets her goals using practicality-- not too "out of reach". She has enough self-confidence to leave a bad situation, yet, she will not take great risks, as they relate to her goals. A good esteem is one key to a happy life. Although there is room for improvement in the confidence catagery, her self-perception is better than average.

阿扁"Sham on you"

A-Bain should go to hell.... It is shame of him and family to have such a scandal. Many Pro-Taiwan Independent people cannot accept this fact, including myself. I just cannot accept the way he dealt with his special account for campaign funds. He should be punish and put into jail for life. Go Go Taiwan..................

While at research and tending to patients, it had occurred to me that it is the unofficial Father's Day in Taiwan today (or yesterday, by the time I finish writing this)! Since I haven't been able to charge my phone for a while (busted dorm socket), I just wanted to dedicate this post to my dad and all the other wonderful father figures in the family.

My dad has served as my pillar of strength through hard times, offered me the support I need to work towards my future, and is always there for me when I need some heartfelt advice. I've always been daddy's little girl and I can't imagine going through life's milestones without him by me. At the end of the day, no matter how bruised and battered things may leave me, he always seems to have a Band-Aid big enough to patch everything up. I am certainly blessed to have such a good father and I can only hope that I will be able to repay him for all that he has done for me!

I spent the rest of my day reminiscing about all the good times that I've spent with Dad. What is the most memorable moment that you've spent with your father? While this is posted is made in the spirit of 八八節, such great people deserve more appreciation than they really get every day. Let's not forget about those that have made us who we are today.

Happy Father's Day!

building progress of new house

We are into the most critical stage of building. We are getting ready to start on plumbing, wiring, AC/heating , and insulation. And because of this, David has decided to cancel his trip to Taiwan. We want to have the house done as soon as possible so you can all come visit us.
