Mac or PC

First, best wishes to Cousin Stefanie!

It is interesting when I happened to see Q比's posting the other day. Because at the same day, my older daughter Stephanie, who is going to UC Davis this Sep., was persuading us to give her a MAC notebook rather than a PC notebook. We promise to give her a new notebook as a gift for the college, yet we did not give a thought to MAC before, because we are so used to Windows & its software. Yet Q比's article gives us other points of view between MAC and PC.

MAC or PC? The answer to it is probably THE PRICE!

This is the picture taken at the graduation day of Stephanie, my mom & sis also came!

Hi Ginny,

Congratulations on Stephanie's graduation and best wishes for her future success.
Mac or PC? Beside the price, weight of laptop is one of factors to consider. If Stephanie looking for something light, tiny,& stylish, then Mac Air will be the right one to choose. We just bought one for Christina recently. She is really enjoy using it. Best of all is very portable for a college student to carry around the campus.
Finally, thank you for sharing your lovely family picture with us. Everyone of you looks gorgeous! Please give our best regards to everybody.

Take care,
Janice

Starting college is always such an exciting experience. Best wishes at UCD ... I actually have a friend who will be graduating soon with a MBA from there. He says there are a lot of people that use bicycles at Davis!

Also, a very big thing to consider ...

MacBook (starting at $1,100)
Processor speed: starts at 2.1GHz
Weight: 5lb

MacBook Air (starting at $1800)
Processor speed: starts at 1.6GHz
Weight: 3lb

If you are willing to sacrifice 2lb, you can get a MacBook which I think this a VERY good deal for a laptop with such specs. It is definitely comparable to any PC that you would buy. The MacBook Air is not the general choice for students, even though it is very convenient, since it is more expensive (an extra $700 more than the MacBook). It is certainly a lot more to pay for portability and I am very glad that my parents were willing to buy it for me =)

I settled with the MacBook Air since I don't do very much other than word processing and web surfing, and portability is very important for me since I am frail and hauling my laptop around with me is tiring sometimes if it takes 30 minutes just to walk to class!

Congratulations on Stephanie's commencement!!!

We have 2 MacBooks and an iMac G5 at home. It's been a year now since we had the laptops. Alex and Ilya share one of the 2 MacBooks and my step-daughter, Katie, uses the other. They are have been very pleased with their laptops. The only aggravation they get sometimes is that some sites are only Microsoft compatible which doesn't happen a lot. We hardly ever have problems with having to restart the system.

Good luck in choosing the "right" computer and best wishes to Stephanie on her freshman year at UCD.

Hi, everyone,

It is great to hear your suggestions before we make any decision.

Thanks to Christina's analysis. Since everyone in Davis rides a bike in the campus, I think weight is a big issue then.

It is interesting that after I show Stephanie Christina's posting, she went to her FaceBook to ask people to vote on "Mac or PC"? The reponse is huge... some friends did not talk for a "decade" writing their comments back! For now it is 50:50!
